This paper, "Nuclear Shelters and Moral Convictions: An Investigation into Princeton’s Debate over Nuclear Fallout Shelters in the Early 1960s," was written by Princeton undergraduate Margaret Murphy for Professor Zia Mian's freshman seminar, "Life in a Nuclear-Armed World." Murphy's paper traces the history of discussion at Princeton about a number of questions and issues pertaining to nuclear fallout shelters. These include whether, where, and for whom to build nuclear fallout shelters; their construction and stocking with supplies; and the shelters' current status.
